Memo to Folk: Stop Begging

Malcolm-x.jpg

One of the most endearing qualities about Hip Hop Culture is that it has never asked permission.

Hip Hop didn't ask permission of its elders in the community to move the crowd.  It didn't get the music industry permission to create a new genre or leave from fashion industry to create styles upon styles upon styles...  Hip Hop just started bombing on the five senses -- from graffiti on New York subways to radio airwaves to television then film and corporate boardrooms by way of the hearts and minds of every generation of young people since its birth in the Boogie Down.

Hip Hop did not beg for lodging.  It scoped out its territory, set up shop in the collective unconscious and now every night rocks til the break of dawn.

The "Black Lives Matter Movement" can take a lesson from Hip Hop and get bolder in its messaging.

The most popular hashtags from The Movement however cute and pithy, are unfortunately passive and overly submissive, basically weak -- you know -- "soft".

Before we go any further, let me say this:  THE PEOPLE IN THE STREET, ORGANIZING, MARCHING AND PROTESTING FOR THE REALIZATION OF A MORE PERFECT UNION ARE THE VERY BEST OF WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER THE WORLD.  THEY ARE THE EMBODIMENT OF THE AMERICAN IDEAL; REAL AMERICAN CONSCIENCE AND PRIDE IN ACTION.  I LOVE ALL OF YOU AND HONOR YOU EVERY DAY.  YOU GIVE ME HOPE -- HOPE THAT THIS LAND WILL LIVE OUT ITS CREED IN MY LIFETIME.  THANK YOU.

This missive is friendly advice from someone who is a student of effective messaging.

A friendly ally who passionately wants to see your message communicated effectively.

Effectively now and for future Generations.

Made an impactful message

Truly a memorable message

Considering where We are as a Nation in this Space and Time its only right that The Movement stand up and Be recognized.

Stand Tall

Stand Strong

Its only right that the message of This Movement in this Space and Time likewise Stand Tall and Stand Strong

Consider these:

     I Can't Breathe

     Hands Up Don't Shoot

     Black Lives Matter

     Stop Killing Us

Helpless,      Passive,      Pleading,      Desperate

Rather than  lamenting the grip of a yoke Throw of your shackles and breathe

I Breathe for Eric/ WE Breathe for Eric / America Breathes for Eric

Rather than unwarranted surrender Claim your birthright as Founding Fathers of America

Protect Americas Children/ All-American Defender/ Defend Americas Children

                                                         WE got Mike's Back

Rather than state the obvious Write  Your Vision and make it plain so the World may know and follow your way to prosperity for All Humanity

                                                         Black Power is Beautiful

And for goodness sake, Rather than settling for little more consideration than the bare minimum afforded a Beast of the field make a Bold Declaration!

We declare our right on this Earth to be free Men and Women, to be human Beings, to be respected as human Beings, to be given the rights of human Beings in this society, on this Earth, on this Day, Which We intend to bring into existence By Any Means Necessary.
